4/5

As part of the Edinburgh International Magic Festival I went to see Michael Neto’s ‘Tragic Magic’ at the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

The show is a story of ‘magic and love’, or alternatively ‘magic or love’! Alan, one-time member of the ‘Impossible Five’ group of magicians, is down on his luck and has to resort to being a street magician. But meeting Emily changes his fortunes.

This humorous and engaging story is interwoven with impressive magic, which makes this a very entertaining performance. The mix of theatre and magic works really well.

What also makes this an interesting show is the way Alan shows how some tricks may work, but then surprises the audience when doing the trick with something else that you cannot explain!
